Since the winter of 2002, I have worked in the Lost Mitten Project. This project began as a idea of collecting lost mittens and has evolved to encompass many collaborations with the community. I have collected mittens from public transit systems in Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal, created site specific installations, and partnered with the crafting community volunteers for sewing a series of five Lost Mitten sleeping bags. These sleeping bags are being completed with carry packs for the ease of transportation. As well, I am collaborating with students from Algonquin College in the development of a searchable database and website. Due to the common experience of losing a mitten, the public has made a communal contribution to this long term, on-going project.
